Contemporary home renovation for listed townhouse
Gorgeous, contemporary home renovation for listed townhouse in Glasgow's West End
The Challenge
nest were appointed as main contractor by Cameron Webster Architects to design and renovate a listed townhouse in Glasgow's West End. Works included converting three flats into two, structural alterations including inserting steel beams, forming a new external door and steps leading into the garden area. Full rewire, CH system, plasterwork, 3 bathrooms, kitchen, lounge, study, three bedrooms and a large stairwell.
The Solution
Our clients Martin and Ali gave us carte blanche to design an interior which was both complimentary to the existing building and yet contemporary and elegant in style and feel. We worked closely with them to develop a mood board which included many shades of grey which were used throughout the interior.
We designed the kitchen, complete with bespoke white worktops and breakfast bar. We gave the master bathroom a luxurious spa feel – our cabinet maker crafted walnut furniture and the underfloor heating added warmth underneath. We built a bespoke en-suite pod complete with bathroom and dressing room. We made sure that Martins 'den' had a masculine, solid look.
During the build the old lounge ceiling had to be removed, this revealed a couple of split floor joists which we quickly fixed. A new ceiling and cornice were installed in the lounge which now looks amazing and in keeping with the original house.
The Results
Martin and Ali now have a beautiful, contemporary home with direct access to the garden. The house is flooded with light and feels fresh, modern and classic.
From the moment we began working with nest on the project, we knew we had made the right decision to award nest the contract. Dene's approach combined professionalism with approachability which made it easy to discuss concerns and ideas as the project progressed. His advice and choices of materials have been fundamental in how beautiful our new house has turned out. We are both over the moon!
During the project any issues were dealt with quickly and we always got the impression that it was just as important to nest as it was to us that the work and finish was of top quality.
The tradesmen working for nest have been in the house for several months and they have always gone out their way to be polite and respectful of the fact they are working in someone's home. This was also much appreciated.
We couldn't speak highly enough of nest and would not hesitate in recommending them to friends or working with them in the future.
They have helped us achieve something we have worked towards for a long time and we are very grateful."
