Modern sandstone kitchen dining room house extension

Beautiful sandstone extension that blends naturally into the original building in Glasgow's West End.

The Challenge

Our clients were looking for a new open plan kitchen diner in the lower ground floor of their home. They wanted it to be bright and airy and open out onto the rear garden area. Several internal rooms required to be refurbished and a new sandstone staircase installed at the front entrance area.

The Solution

We worked closely with Cameron Webster Architects to develop a scheme which was both modern and sympathetic to the original building. Externally we mixed pitched and smooth sandstone on the extension walls. A new insulated slate roof was installed and a small patio laid. Internally we created a large opening in the building which required major structural work and allowed us to form an open plan aspect to the kitchen. We installed specialist exposed lattice roof trusses which create an amazing feature in the room, these are illuminated by hidden perimeter led lighting.

The Results

The kitchen is light and airy, modern and functional. Light now floods into the space and the breakfast bar is ideal for informal dining. The new dining room extension is surrounded by trees and shrubs and every window looks out onto the garden. The lattice trusses in the ceiling now form a major focal point and help to elevate the room into a design which has so much more interest. Our clients are delighted with the refurbishment and their new extension.
