Newlands extension.
Contemporary house extension and renovation of traditional sandstone property.

About the project.

After our clients had a poor experience with a previous architect, they contacted nest to create a new rear extension and undertake structural alterations for them. We completely transformed the rear of the house and built a new light filled kitchen / lounge for our clients, Lynn and Matt. It’s now a stunning, bright, contemporary space for them to entertain and access their garden with ease.

The new contemporary extension opens up into a generous, light-filled kitchen and living space — designed to feel effortless and connected. Large sliding doors draw the garden in, softening the boundary between inside and out.

Adjoining the kitchen, a warm and inviting dining room creates a more intimate setting, while a cleverly concealed office sits quietly off the lounge — hidden when not in use, but always there when needed.

Externally, the extension is finished in black timber cladding with strong angular architectural shapes.

Light now floods into the space through roof lights and giant sliding doors and the clients’ children can run around safely in the kitchen and garden.

The entire nest team and their contractors were a pleasure to have on site. They were consistently respectful, tidy, and highly professional.

“Nest supported us through the full design-and-build process presenting a range of thoughtful layout options we hadn’t considered and explaining clearly how each would work for day-to-day living. They handled the planning process end-to-end, which was a huge relief.

Beyond the build itself, they had fantastic ideas on interior finishes and styling, helping us make confident choices on the overall look and feel. We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend nest for projects large or small, and we’re already considering using them again.”
